What methods of construction management are suitable to promote environmental sustainability for the Thompson Rivers University Library Commons and First Nations House of Learning?
PROJECT
The purpose of this analytical report is to examine and evaluate how construction management can be developed to encourage and promote environmental aspects of sustainability in Kamloops. I will be focusing my research on the Thompson Rivers University Library Commons and First Nations House of Learning. I will examine the methods used in the projects construction management in order to achieve a building standard that is environmentally sustainable and compare their methods with other possible methods to discover why such methods were picked and how they promote environmental sustainability in Kamloops.

ITEMS TO RESEARCH IN DEPTH
1. Examine environmental sustainability. What is sustainable development? How does the case study define sustainability? How does LEED Certification define sustainability?
2. Examine what green construction is and its advantages.
3. Research green project requirements in order to better understand what is required for construction management methods.
4. Research green construction process, planning and scheduling.
5. Interview Construction Managers at Deramore Construction to examine construction management hands on.
6. Determine what education is provided for construction management on green building design. Compare with the education provided for Architects and Engineers.
7. Create a cost analysis comparing a construction management project incorporating green building construction to a building without. Look at economic sustainability of the building and how this economically affects construction managers as well.
8. Determine the best methods to develop construction management in Kamloops so that it promotes and encourages environmental sustainability.
SPECIAL PROBLEMS/ POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
1. What construction methods are used in Kamloops? How are they different across Canada?
2. What are the cost limitations for the case study?
3. Can green building design be promoted in construction management education instead of architecture and design phase only?
4. How much of an effect does LEED Certification have on construction management?
5. How do you determine which methods are most appropriate for Kamloops?
6. What are the problems construction management faces in the future? What has to be considered in order to create a building that will maintain a long and adaptable life?
7. A green building may require coordination from many different areas of expertise and of information that people have not had to gather before. Resistance to change and new ideas.
8. Construction Managers may have to educate contractors and subcontractors on green building. How can they do this? What is the chain affect? Will this cause more resistance or help encourage change?
